Something Out Of The Ordinary

When you go on holiday, you always have the urge to go through your mental list of must see attractions, rather than thinking outside of the box and doing something different. We’ve picked out some examples of fun alternatives to the usual must do’s on city breaks to Rome, Berlin, Amsterdam and Prague…

ColosseumRome

What you’re supposed to do:
Spend your days traipsing around historic monuments such as the Colosseum and fighting your way through the crowds to get within arms distance of the Trevi Fountain, so you can toss in a coin with the desperate hope of the wish you make coming true.

Alternative:
Why not tour the city at night? On a Segway? This unique experience will allow you to zip round this amazing city and view it from a completely different perspective. You will glide from the Forum of Traiano, through the Campidoglio to Navona Square and the Temple of Hadrian, then to the Phanteon and down the alley of historical building to the Spanish Steps. This way, you can avoid the thousands of tourists and scorching heat!

Berlin
What you’re supposed to do:

Hop on and off buses hunting down the remains of the Berlin Wall and the famous Checkpoint Charlie, which is the best known border crossing point between East and West Berlin. Then stop off to take numerous typically touristy pictures under the Brandenbug Gate.

Alternative:
Visit one of the largest and oldest zoos in the world, the Zoologischer Garten. With over 1,500 various species, this is somewhere kids will love. Plus why not tuck into a Currywurst whilst you’re there; what could be better than hot sausage cut into slices with ketchup and curry powder? It really is a must.

Amsterdam
What you’re supposed to do:
Well it isn’t a secret that many tourists are attracted to Amsterdam for its endless array of coffee shops and its provocative red light district; but a typical tourist may also take a cruise down the canal stopping off at the numerous museums such as the Rijksmuseum and Anne Frank’s House.

Alternative:
Join in with the bicycle culture and take a different approach to relaxing in Amsterdam. Go on a leisurely ride to the leafy retreat of the Vondelpark, where you can sit back, unwind and do some serious people watching!

Prague

What you’re supposed to do:

Prague city breaks usually mean emerging yourself in a real life fairy-tale, visiting the astonishing Gothic Castle just in time to see the changing of the guard and attempting to decipher the 15th century Astronomical Clock, with its hourly party trick, which is a bit of an anti-climax to be honest.

Alternative:
Why not take a trip out of the city centre and discover why the Czech Republic has the highest per-capita beer consumption in the world! A beer tasting tour is a fun alternative day out, where you can enjoy the history of the Czech Republic’s beer and get a bit jolly at the same time!

Hopefully these fun alternatives have given you some inspiration for your next holiday and you’ll choose to do something out of the ordinary! Have you got any other suggestions of unusual things to do in these cities, or maybe other cities? If you do, let us know!
