VeniceWe hope you haven’t forgotten but for those of you that have, here’s a friendly reminder from the team at Door2Tour coach tours that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner (14 Feb 2013). No doubt quite a few of you will be opting for flowers & chocolates as gifts followed by a meal out or takeaway at home. You could always push the boat out a little further with a fabulous romantic city break and we have come up with a mini guide of those cities you should visit if you’re seeking romance or perhaps wish to drop to bended knee and pop the question this Valentine’s Day…

Paris, France
It’s already known by many as the ‘city of romance’ so you’ve already ticked one major thing off your list by booking a city break to Paris if this is what you are looking for. So why not whisk your special someone to this fine city and enjoy a romantic river cruise along The Seine, climb to the very top of the Eifel Tower to admire the views, book a candlelit dinner in one of the many quaint Parisienne restaurants/cafes or perhaps enjoy the opera at the Palace Garnier. Top your night out with a romantic walk along the champs-elysees whilst you whisper sweet nothings into each other’s ear – and who said romance was dead?

London, UK
If the cashflow is flowing a bit thin on the ground, you could always stay closer to home by hopping on a coach break to explore our wonderful capital city – London? There are so many lovely open spaces to wander around with your someone special such as Hyde Park, St James’ Park and Regents Park to name but a few. If the weather is fine, you could take a stroll along the riverbank of The Thames and perhaps enjoy the street entertainment provided by the South Bank. Maybe treat your loved one to a ride on the London Eye, enjoy a relaxing meal at the OXO Tower and finish the evening off with a top West End Show such as The Bodyguard, Phantom Of The Opera or The Lion King.

Bruges, Belgium

Hop on the coach for a romantic break to the beautiful European city of Bruges known for its chocolates, lace and of course, the Belgian beers. Every man should know that a ‘girl’s best friend’ is a diamond so whilst you’re in Bruges, plan a trip to the Diamond Museum where you can find out everything you need to know about these beautiful sparkly creations. During your visit, you’ll get to see a demonstration of diamond cutting and find out what a carat means. Add a touch of romance to your Bruges city break by booking a canal cruise where you can admire the city from a different angle – just don’t forget to pay a visit to one of the many shops selling handmade chocolates and take a few home!

Amsterdam, Holland
Probably the most romantic thing you can do on a European break to Amsterdam is to hop on a canal cruise but there are a variety of things you can do in addition to this, some cost nothing but there are a few that can be expensive so do your research before you embark on your tour. Seeing Amsterdam by night will certainly add a little romance to your break as the bridges glow in the canals and couples walk hand in hand along the cobbled streets. For the ultimate romantic experience, book a table at the Ciel Bleu restaurant (the only one in the city with two Michelin Stars) located on the 23rd floor of Amsterdam’s Hotel Okura
where you can enjoy a sumptuous meal whilst admiring a bird’s eye view of Amsterdam below – it doesn’t come cheap though unfortunately!

Venice, Italy
Did you know that Venice is home to Casanova? So you really can’t go wrong with a city break here if you’re seeking a romantic holiday with your special someone. For many, romance in Venice is summed up with a gondola ride through the many waterways that make up this fine city. There are a number of attractions to visit too and first on the list should be the San Marco piazza that is home to St Mark’s Basilica, the Torre dell’Orologio clock tower and Doge’s Palace – the three major sights to see in Venice. Why not visit Venice during Carnivale where you can dress up as you attend the Masked Ball?

Will you be seeking romance this Valentine’s Day? If so, where in the world do you think is the ideal destination for all things romantic!
