The Royal Ascot: The Enclosures

The Windsor Enclosure

The Windsor Enclosures, knows as the Silver Ring in the past, provides you a view of the race beginnings. You are obviously supposed to wear a suit and other formal clothing since this is a ‘royal’ event, but there is still no hard and fast dress code, other than replica sports shirts being banned.

Also people who have tickets to the Windsor Enclosure are supposed to stay in the designated area. So you may find the space to be limited.

The Queen Anne Enclosure

The Queen Anne Enclosure allows all access except for the Royal Enclosure. You do have the opportunity for upgrading the ticket though, which lets you dine in at some of the grander Ascot restaurants.

The Queen Anne Enclosure does have a proper dress code.  All the men have to wear a suit, complete with a tie or bow. As for the ladies, you have to dress formally as well; if you are wearing trousers, they should be full length, whereas dresses should be below the knees. Sheer, sleeveless and off the shoulder dresses or tops aren’t allowed. You cannot even wear spaghetti straps or anything that shows off your belly. Plus, you have to cover your head with a hat.

The Royal Enclosure

The Royal Enclosure is the most ‘royal’ of all stands. Access is based on invitation only, and the dress code requirements are stringent. During the morning hours, men have to wear a tie with only a gray or black hat, whereas the shoes must be black. Ladies have to wear below the knee dresses or trousers paired with jackets of the same material. A hat is again mandatory.
