To coincide with last night’s BRIT Awards, the Door2Tour escorted tours team thought we’d have a little fun of our own and have come up with a hypothetical list of places in Great Britain that we would issue an award to. We have come up with a few fun award categories, chosen our winner and given reasons as to why we felt they should get the award and in some cases a fun fact! To find out who our fun awards will go to, take a look at this…
Sunniest place in the UK:
Eastbourne – The popular seaside town currently holds the record for the highest amount of sunshine in a month (383.9 hours in July 2011). Did you know that the famous Carpet Gardens here were dug up during the Second World War so that they could be used to grow onions?
UK seaside resort that’s perfect for families:
Blackpool – Quite simply because this resort has it all and is perfect for families of all ages whether they like beaches, parks, donkey rides or seaside amusements, Blackpool has all the elements for a perfect family break. Did you know that Blackpool is also the town of ‘firsts’ as it is home to the tallest & fastest rollercoaster, has the biggest mirror ball in the world and some of the biggest nightclubs hosting world-class shows?
Best city to visit in the UK:
Brighton – Apparently Brighton in one of the top five cities that tourists wish to visit during their stay in the UK and seeing as it attracts approx. 8 million tourists a year, it can’t be doing anything wrong! Visiting Brighton is great because not only do you experience city life you can also get away from it all by disappearing to the coast without having to step out of Brighton!
Best beach in the UK:
Rhossili Bay – According to a recent poll by Tripadvisor.com, this beach in Swansea, Wales have been voted UK’s number one beach and third best in Europe. Rhossili Bay is the largest expanse of white sand on the Gower Peninsula and stretches for three miles. Did you know that it beat Hawaii and the Caribbean in the Poll?
Most traditional seaside resort:
Scarborough – It is a proper old-fashioned seaside resort that is perfect for those people looking for a traditional fun packed family holidays by the sea. Did you know that Scarborough was the very first seaside spa resort in England? In the early 17th century, natural mineral waters were discovered and from then became very popular as somewhere nice to ‘take to the waters’.
Top night out:
London – It was a tough decision to make as there are many cities within the UK that are fabulous nightspots but we chose London ultimately because of the fabulous West End shows, vibrant nightlife, buzzing cafes & bars. It is fast becoming our version of NYC in that it’s almost a city that doesn’t sleep!
