“I swear by the roars heard last night in my camp, I slept but sleepless. Excitement amidst the darkness and the dawn has held my eyelids open like never before!”
The team at Door2Tour.com have invited Guest Blogger, Jessica Frei, to contribute a post about her adventures whilst travelling in India. She says that jungles and their beasts have been the protagonists (and antagonists as well) of many stories and folk tales across the world in the regions they rule. Wildlife lovers take the bait of uniqueness of nature and travel across the different parts of world to get acquainted with Mother Nature as it is in these places. Indian National Parks are among such places where people come as if under the spell casted by the exclusivity. Want to know what is there to surprise you even if you know about them? Read on…
The Ferocious Jungle Felines
These exotic species are the prime draw of wildlife in India. The mighty
Royal Bengal tigers found in National Parks (NP) like Ranthambhore, Bandhavgarh, Sunderbans, Pench and many others are world famous. Next one on the list is Asiatic Lions found prominently in Gir NP of Gujarat. The other popular felines of the Indian forests are different species of leopards. Snow leopard in Hemis NP, Clouded Leoprads in Namdhapha, Corbett and Manas NP are some of which attract people to Forest camps. Other species falling in the category include jungle cat, desert cat, Lynx, Pallas cats, golden cats etc found in national parks like Bharatpur, Desert NP, Ranthambhore and Manas NP and many others.
The Primates – Ape
The other dominant wildlife species in India include a huge variety of apes. The species falling under this family include Langur, Macaque and Lemurs, found almost in all the national parks of India varying in population and subspecies.
The Loyal Jungle Canines
Everyone is familiar with the dogs. Most of you have one in home. However,
the dogs of jungle are nothing what one has observed in their familiar canine companion. Starting with Wolf in Belta NP, Gir NP and Velavadar NP; Jackal in Rajaji NP, Kanha NP, Bandhavgarh NP and Bandhavgarh NP; Fox in Desert NP, Bandipur and more, wildlife enthusiasts can enjoy a wide variety of canines on Indian turf.
The Mighty Asian Elephants
The other reason people cover miles to come to be a part of wildlife species in India is Elephant, the close to its African Brother. Families enjoy joy rides on Elephants safari. They are spotted in almost all the National Parks but the popular one may include Corbett, Nagarhole, Kanha, Eravikulam NP and more.
Honey comb strippers – Bears
The Himalayan Black bear, Sloth bear and the brown bear are the main
species found in the Indian National Parks like Corbett, Kanha, Nagarhole, Manas, Panna, etc. Among them almost all are efficient climbers but Himalayan bears are more ferocious than their American cousins to the extent of instinctively attacking human standing too close. These are the major ones but there are many other species in wildlife sanctuaries including Rhinoceros (as in Khaziranga), Wild Ass, Gaur, Deer, Antelopes and variety of birds, common in India. Come, indulge and discover!
