Holiday like 007

IstanbulThere can’t be many of us left now who have yet to see the latest instalment to the James Bond franchise – Skyfall. Who knows maybe after seeing the film, you may wish to visit some of the locations featured in Skyfall as well as those where the other James Bond movies were filmed. With this in mind, Door2Tour coach tours have taken a whistle-stop tour across the world to give you a brief insight into some of these wonderful destinations that would be perfect for that breakaway you’ve been planning…

Skyfall – Istanbul
The action-packed bike chase that features in the latest Bond movie was filmed entirely in Istanbul. You’ll see Bond chasing his target across the roofs of Istanbul landing in the Grand Bazaar which is one of the world’s oldest covered markets. Another Bond movie was also filmed here and that was “From Russia With Love”. Istanbul is perfect for a weekend break with its wonderful markets, mosques and stunning architecture not to mention the amazing aroma of spices that fill the air. Definitely worth a visit if you can get to Turkey.

The Man with the Golden Gun – Phang Nga Bay, Thailand
Not sure if you remember the scene where Bond jets in over Phang Nga Bay en route to Scaramanga’s island hideaway on Ko Tapu. This is where he discovers that Scaramanga (played by Christopher Lee) has cunningly hidden a solar power plant in the rocks. Did you know that the locals here now call Khao Ping-Gan, James Bond Island? The towering limestone rock set in the Andaman Sea is just a short boat ride from the popular resort of Phuket. Thailand is perfect if you fancy a longer escorted tour as it is filled with an abundance of natural, cultural and historical attractions. The beaches and islands are a must when holidaying in Thailand plus not forgetting the varied activity programme on offer providing everything from hot-air ballooning to kite surfing. You certainly won’t get bored when you’re here!

Moonraker – Rio de Janeiro
Who could forget the legendary scene where Bond takes on metal-mouth Jaws on top of two cable-cars high above Rio’s Guanabara Bay? Wasn’t it a nail-biter and boy, Jaws was one scary man? Anyway no Bond fan would want to miss out on a break to Rio especially if you can combine in with Carnival time when the whole country comes alive to the samba beat! Glorious beaches, vibrant nightlife and an exotic cuisine on top of a mass of amazing sights to see, makes Rio de Janeiro one of the perfect places for an escorted tour.

Die Another Day – Iceland
Apart from the collapse of the Ice Palace, one of the other dramatic scenes in Die Another Day was the car chase across1Iceland the ice with Bond in his Aston Martin Vanquish and Zao in hot pursuit in his Jaguar XKR. The awesome glacial lagoon of Jokulsarlon was the Ice Palace setting. Iceland is another one of those interesting places to tick off the ‘Bucket List’ with its awesome geysers and buildings constructed entirely out of ice. Reykjavik is the place to be with its quaint cafes, stylish restaurants, museums, galleries and vibrant nightlife. For something a little more thrilling, experience white-water rafting in Jökulsárgljúfur National Park or visit Kverkfjöll Caves for an adventure that combines both fire and ice. By the end of your adventure, you’ll begin to feel like 007!
