History
Monaco is known to be amongst the smallest of the European Countries so actually going for an idea as wild as a car race was completely out of the books. However, it wasn’t until 1929 when Antony Noghes decided to hold the first Grand Prix of Monaco which was made possible through the support of the prominent figures, Prince Louis the second and Louis Chiron. However, it wasn’t until the end of the Second World War that the Monaco Grand Prix started again in 1945.
The Monaco Grand Prix is amongst those races that date back to before the Second World War. Initially it began on a small scale, known as the “practice phase” but soon grew to be recognised and loved both nationally and internationally. The first person to win the Monaco Grand Prix was a French named William Grover.
About
Because Monaco is a very small country, the race track consists of narrow roads and very sharp bends making it amongst the most difficult and thus the most glamorous races among all other Grand Prix. Consisting of 78 laps, the circuit length is 334 KM with the drivers especially put to the test when they are supposed to drive through long tunnels having to adjust their eyes to varying light in a short span of time.
It is also home the only winner of the Triple Crown of Motorsport, Graham Hill who won one of the most prestigious awards in history of motorsport.
