It was recently revealed that the Edinburgh Film Festival, which will take place from the 15th of June till the 26th of June will be launching a ‘Work in Progress’ section that is a part of its new offerings. It is said that this film event will offer up to 7 new titles that will cover an invited audience, which consists of distributors, festival programmers, financiers, and sales agents.
There will be a dedicated programme of events with the help of Finnish and UK producers, in addition to the networking events, industry event programme, and talent development programme. Filmmakers who want to test how their films will do in different territories are invited by the authorities to submit their work so that it can be considered. Other than this, distributors, sales agents, and financers who want to learn about the Edinburgh Film Festival’s work in progress are asked to contact the head of talent and industry development at EIFF, Holly Daniel.
The Edinburgh Film Festival revealed that in 2016 they will be focusing more on Finland, and will be working in association with the Finnish Film Foundation, which is why EIFF will introduce programmes that will have Finnish features and will include fiction as well as documentary. Furthermore, there will be a programme that will consist of special screenings and Finnish shorts. The Finnish activities will also be including industry specific things and one can expect guests and celebrities from Finland.
The deputy artistic director of EIFF, Diane Henderson said that they are excited to see the results as Finnish heritage is completely different, and that EIFF is looking forward to seeing the films from Finland. According to the head of the international department at The Finnish Film Foundation, Jaana Puskala, they will be showing different Finish films and are hoping that the people will get a chance to have a look at this northern country’s artistic soul.
