Emmerdale is the second longest running British opera show that was first broadcasted in 1972. Until the year 1989, the show was known as Emmerdale Farm but the name was shortened to just Emmerdale later on. The show was originally created by Kevin Laffan and was produced by ITV Yorkshire. It is based on a fictional village named Beckindale, but after an unfortunate accident in 1994, the name was changed to Emmerdale.

Originally, the series appeared during the afternoon but the slot was changed to evening time in 1978.  Up until the year 1988, Emmerdale took seasonal breaks, but after that, it began broadcasts all year round. The show attracts almost six million viewers per episode, and has a huge fan following all over the world. Where was Emmerdale Filmed?

Emmerdale is filmed in Yorkshire in a village known as the Arncliffe village. With time, the team realized that it took a lot of effort to travel so much, which is why the location was shifted to Leeds in Yorkshire. The outdoor scenes of the show were shot in a village known as Esholt, but the place got too popular and the filming location was shifted to the Harewood Estate. Special care is taken of the place as it has a gardener who takes care of the flowers that are required for some scenes and makes sure that they bloom before the shooting is due to start.

Learning about the Set in Yorkshire

The Harewood Estate is being used since 1998 and the place is a replica of the village of Esholt in West Yorkshire. The place designed by Mike Long, who submitted the design in 1995. Places like tearooms and Annie’s cottage were replicated, but since the team was on a budget, the church and the vicarage were not recreated. The construction of the place ended in 1997 and the team then began filming there the following year.
