Battle of Britain – 75th Anniversary

SpitfireThe skies will be filled with the sound of the Spitfire engines on 15th September 2015 to mark the 75th Anniversary of the victory of the Battle of Britain. An estimated 40 Spitfires, Hurricanes and Blenheims from the UK, USA and Europe will come together at the Goodwood Aerodrome in West Sussex to take part in a historic flypast.

The routes will take them across many points in the South of England and will be the biggest collection of Battle of Britain aircraft flying together at any time since World War II.

Wing Commander Tom Neil (Battle of Britain Hurricane and Spitfire Pilot) aged 95 will lead the formation from the back of a two-seater Spitfire. Prince Harry will be attending the celebrations on his 31st Birthday. Having set up the Spitfire Scholarship with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, which allows two wounded serviceman to learn to fly the famous Spitfire. They too, will be taking part in the flypast.

The aircraft will split into separate groups and fly on predetermined routes ending in Battle of Britain airfields such Duxford, Biggin Hill and Northweald. Full routes can be found here.

The series of events promises to be a moving day for those veterans and relatives alike, and a perfect way to reflect on the sacrifices of many.
