Last night I was lucky enough to see Disney’s latest musical Aladdin at the Prince Edward Theatre in London. As a Disney production this show certainly delivered on every level with lavish sets, stunning costumes and it’s clear that no expense has been spared.
The show tells the tale of Aladdin, a street urchin who stumbles upon a magic lamp with a genie inside and manages to woo Princess Jasmine after a chance encounter in a market. The musical features a number of songs from the original 1992 movie including ‘A Whole New World’, ‘Prince Ali’, and ‘Friend Like Me’.
The sets are unlike anything I’ve ever seen before with an abundance of gold and glitter and certainly have the wow factor. The outfits for the show are incredible and sparkle throughout the entirety with thousands of swarovski crystals and beads embroidered across them.
The highlight of the show has to be the Genie, he is quite simply contagious, infectious and oh so much fun. He’ll have you bopping along to Friend Like Me and laughing throughout the entirety of the show.
Aladdin certainly lived up to all my expectations (and maybe even exceeded them). I’d highly recommend the musical to families and especially to children as they will most definitely love it.
