Christmas Coach Holidays in the UK

candy-cane-1Planning Christmas Coach Holidays in the UK? A great way to spend the festive season. How do the locals do it? Which of their traditions would you enjoy the most? Let’s take a look.

In the United Kingdom, most of the families spend Christmas with each other. Generally, they gather up in a pre-decided place to enjoy the festivities together. And also, because they love opening presents with each other!

Christmas trees are a must in every home and shop. The bigger ones may even have two to three of these. Christmas trees are decorated some days before, with everyone in the family helping. The buildings are also decorated with mistletoe, ivy and holy. And oh the lights, you will see them everywhere! The Christmas trees, walls, streets, parks, entrances and elsewhere. For the lights hanging at restaurants and in the markets, an admired person usually turns them on. Where is the best display of lights? Oxford Street in London is a site to see every year.

Carol services and Nativity Plays are fairly popular. Many local churches play carols at night, and when they do, they only light candles. The overall atmosphere is pleasant, fun and makes you feel so special. Definitely worth attending!

What do the kids do? They look for presents which they assume Santa leaves for them in pillow cases and stocking. These are hung by their bed or the fire on Christmas Eve. Children also save some mince pies and non-alcoholic drinks for Santa Claus. Plus, they write letters, and ask for all their favourite gifts. But, the letters are not sent by postal services, and tossed up in the fireplace. Children believe that Santa reads the emitting smoke.

As for the meals, they are usually savoured in the afternoon, when the table is set with roasted turkey, veggies and other favourites.

Happy Christmas Coach holidays!
