Emmerdale is a long running British soap opera which was first broadcasted in 1972 and was filmed in the village of Arncliffe in the beginning. By 1975, however, the filming was shifted to the village of Beckinsdale. The fictional village was later named Emmerdale by the local villagers. For 22 years, Emmerdale was filmed in Esholt.
However, since 1998, the filming interiors’ scenes of Emmerdale have been shifted to a studio in Leeds. The exterior shots are filmed on Harewood estate in a set built on the outskirts of the city. This is a replica of Esholt.
The studios of Emmerdale are closed for the general public. However, there are guided walking tours that are launched usually on the weekends.
