2013 kicked off with the awesome Australian Open with Andy Murray making it to the final stages. The rest of the year is simmering away with some fantastic sporting events to follow such as: the World Athletics Championships, Rugby League World Cup, the women’s Cricket World Cup, the Ashes and ICC Champions Trophy as well as the Africa Cup of Nations and women’s European Championships to look forward to. Women’s Cricket ICC World Cup
This year’s ICC Women’s World Cup will be hosted at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai where the Top
Eight women’s sides from across the world will battle it out to be crowned world champion across five venues. Teams from England, New Zealand, Australia, India, West Indies, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and South Africa will all be competing.

Rugby Union Six Nations
With Wales the defending champions, this year’s Rugby Union Six Nations is living up to be an exciting sporting event for 2013. There is definitely a scramble for places on the next summer Lions Tour of Australia. Rugby Union Six Nations culminates on 16th March 2013 in Cardiff when Wales will play against England.

Cheltenham Festival
This has to be one of the greatest horse-racing events in the calendar and attracts crowds from all over the UK who attend the event every March. If you’re lucky to get your hands on tickets for the Cheltenham Festival, you will get to see top jockeys and their horses competing against one another until the event culminates in the Gold Cup.

Every April, all heads turn to Aintree as The Grand National arrives in Liverpool. This is another of those exciting horse-racing events attracting over 154,000 race-goers every year. It has become a British Institution with over 11 million viewers tuning in to watch the steeplechase in 2012!

Wimbledon Tennis Championships
With the success of Andy Murray winning a gold medal during the events that made up a successful summer of sport, the majority of UK tennis fans will be wondering whether 2013 will be the year that a Brit finally picks up the coveted Men’s Singles Title at the famous courts of SW19. Roger Federer is definitely proving to be a tough contender and will be looking to achieve his eighth Wimbledon title in 2013. Serena Williams will also be looking to add another Women’s Singles Title to the five she already has. To find out if a Brit can win, you’ll need to be there or be watching all the action on TV!

With most eyes turning towards Silverstone in June for the British Grand Prix, many of us forget that there is another great motor-racing event this year and that is the 2013 British MotoGP. This year, the race has moved from its traditional summer slot in June to September to host round 13 of the World Championship. Wonder if Jorge Lorenzo will repeat his 2012 success this year?

Rugby League World Cup
It’s looking like Australia remains a force to be reckoned with where Rugby League is concerned as they start as favourites to win the title. The successful team have already won nine out of the 13 Rugby League tournaments since it started in 1954. The final will be held at Old Trafford, Manchester on 30th November 2013.

The ATP World Tour Finals
Novak Djokovic proved that he is the master in his field by winning the Singles Title at the 2012 ATP World Tour Finals. The event tends to take place at London’s O2 and at the moment the line-up of players has not yet been confirmed but will likely feature: Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and others depending on how well they perform during the other tennis competitions taking place throughout the year.
