It is the number one horse racing tournament in the world. The event lasts for 5 consecutive days, usually kicking off on Tuesday, featuring 6 mega races. The total prize money crosses £3 million, and the event is attended by hordes and hordes of people ever year who flaunt their styles in pretty formal dresses for the ladies and suits for the men, complete with a hat and tie.

What is so Royal about this?

Since it was founded by Queen Anne herself in the year 1711, even today, the Royal Family of England attends the races including Queen Elizabeth II. Even if they didn’t, you still can’t deny the fact that Ascot races are not only among the highest quality tournaments in just the country, but the world as well. Competition is an all time high, and so is the excitement. And obviously that does mean that a lot of money is put at stake – won by the fortunate and lost by the unfortunate!

When does the event take place?

Every year in June, though the exact dates do change, but the event starts on a Tuesday.

Where do the races take place?

The horses race against each other at the Ascot Racecourses, located in Ascot town in Berkshire. About 30 miles away from the western side of Central London, it takes about 90 minutes to get to the site.

What is the Royal Procession?

Before the races begin each day, the Royal Procession is conducted, and members of the Royal Family make their way to the Royal Enclosure in horse drawn carriages.

Who can watch the Royal Procession?

Anyone, as long as they  are by the track at around 2 pm!
